William J. Werner better known to his friends as Colonel passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at Sandwich Rehab & Health Care in Sandwich. Bill gave up his life to cancer just as he had lived life, his way. He was a good friend who would do anything for you expecting nothing in return.
Bill was born in Sandwich, IL on September 5, 1952 the son of Francis and Helen (Sherman) Werner. He graduated from Sandwich High School in 1970. He enjoyed all sports. Bill was on a bowling league for many years, once bowling a 299 game. He attended 37 consecutive Indy 500 races. Bill worked at All Steel in Aurora for 22 years and at Fox Metro Water Reclamation District in Oswego. He worked at the Sandwich Fair from 1993-2013. Bill worked for KRH Farming for 36 years.
Bill is survived by one sister, Patricia Werner of Leland, IL; one brother, Michael Werner of Sheridan, IL; one niece, Hannah Werner of Oswego, IL; one nephew, Kyle Werner of Sheridan, IL; many cousins, good friends and his rocks Shala and Kenny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis in 2010, Helen in 1996 and his half-brother, Henry La Boube in 1963.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk with Father Kevin Butler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk.
