Wilbur J. Martin, 97, of Somonauk, IL passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at his home in Somonauk, IL. He was born July 24, 1920 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Jacob and Alice Neff Martin. He married Loretta R. Klotz on January 7, 1945 in Somonauk. Wilbur was a US Army Veteran during WWII, serving in the infantry and was wounded just prior to the battle of the bulge. He served as a volunteer fireman in Somonauk for many years, was a member of both the Somonauk & DeKalb County Boards of Education & was on the Open Door Workshop Board. Wilbur was the oldest living member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk.
He is survived by two sons, John Jane Martin of Geneva, IL and Reed Jeanie Martin of Sandwich, IL; four grandchildren, Amy Ryan Kemp, Nicholette Johnson, Johanna Jason Patterson, and Jacob Katy Martin; ten great grandchildren, Andrew, Avery, Anthony, Skylor, Jada, Emilie, Marin, John, Parker, and Quinn Loretta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Loretta, three brothers, Henry, Art, and Richard, and two sisters, Edna Henrich & Catherine.
Funeral Service will be the at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, with Pastor William C. Weidenbach, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the of service on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the church in Somonauk.
