Wallace M. “Wally” Herreid, 70, of Plano, IL passed away Sunday, May, 3, 2015 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born October 21, 1944 in Williston, North Dakota the son of Calvin and Oralina (Kirby) Herreid. He was a resident of Mooseheart from 1955 - 1963. He married Melody Bartell on February 4, 1967, and to that union was born their much loved daughter Robin Beth (Tarry) Williams. Wally was a member of the Aurora Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Sandwich Moose Lodge #1016, Sons of the American Legion, Post 395, The American Legion Riders, Post 181 and Sunbeam Masonic Lodge, Plano, IL. Wally will be remembered for his many great years of bowling with wonderful friends, who called him Dad or Father, for his generosity and kindness. His teasing and silly grin.
He is survived by his wife Melody of Plano, one daughter Robin, son-in-law Tarry and two grandsons, Cody Steele Williams and Noah Robert Williams; one sister Virginia “Vicki” Marie (Harold) Filler of Muncie, IN, one step-sister, Connie Hunter of Billings, MT and many nieces and nephews, who were dear to his heart.
It is unknown if he is joining (but perhaps so) his dear brother SSgt. Robert D. Herreid MIA, South Viet Nam, October 10, 1968. Our prayer is that he has meet him in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Bruce and Peg Bartell, his beloved Aunt and Uncle. Alvin and Virginia (Auntie Gin and Uncle Al) Westerso of North Dakota and many Aunts and Uncles.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, IL, with Tarry Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, in the funeral home prior to service. Memorials may be directed to the Herreid Family to be donated at their discretion to his favorite charities. There will be a gathering for friends and family after the service at Hometown Lanes 209 W. Main St. Plano, IL, which was one of his favorite places.
