Verne E. Wruck, 83, of Sandwich, Illinois passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 8, 1933 in Ottawa, IL the son of Edward and Eloise Holeff Wruck. He married Darlene M. Tuftee on August 19, 1961 in Sandwich, IL. He was a past member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sandwich, and the Sandwich Moose Lodge. Verne was a proud member of the United States Air Force serving from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He sang with Lamplighters Chorus and the church choir for many years. He retired after 38 years of service at the U.S. Post Office, after retirement he worked at the Library and Park District, part time. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing, woodworking, gardening and he could fix anything. He was known as “Papa Fix”.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Sandwich, three daughters, Jeanene Wruck, Leanne Wruck and Yvonne Steve Wruck-Beckwith all of Sandwich; three grandchildren, Erik Wruck, Alicia and Emily Beckwith; one sister, Doris Mueller of Streator, IL, one brother Glenn Virginia Wruck of Moline, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Vernice Elaine Wruck, his grandmother “Grandma Johnson” and one sister Shirley.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL. With Rev. Erik Gauss officiating. Burial of his urn will follow in Baker Cemetery rural Leland, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in the funeral home until the service at noon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed Seasons Hospice, Kish Health System Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
