Ula P. Wright Greenwood, 89, of Somonauk, IL passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at her home. She was born April 17, 1928 in Sandwich, the daughter of Joe and Fay Wright. She married Warren Glenn Greenwood on September 25, 1948 in Sandwich at the Federated Church. Ula was an active member of the Federated Church. She served on several committees over the years and was the choir director on and off for over 70 years. Ula took great pride in directing the Christmas Vesper Program and did so for 20 years. Ula was born with a beautiful voice and sang at many weddings, funerals, and community events, including being a part of the Harmonettes. She even won a contest and sang on the radio! One of her greatest accomplishments was directing the 70-voice choir for the grand opening of the Opera House in Sandwich. Ula worked at the Sandwich State Bank for 33 years, retiring in 1996. Ula owned and operated her own store “Lulabelles and Antique Candle Gallery” on and off for many years. Warren and Ula sold Tri-State Homes for several years and have some the these scattered across the area. Warren and Ula were involved in the Antique Car Club and attended many car shows, they also were very active in putting on the one at the Sandwich Fair. Ula was a family person, she spent any free time hanging out with her daughters and their families.
Ula is survived by four daughters, Cindy Albright of Somonauk, IL, Patti Chuck Fox of Somonauk, IL, Christine Williams of Sandwich, IL, and Colette Frank Kurtz of Somonauk, IL; her grandchildren, Ashley Travis McNurlan, Lindsay Fox, Jordan Fox, Sean Trisha Williams, Tyler Jessica Williams, Alexis Williams, Andrew Pinter, Taylor Pinter, and Rebecca Pinter; four great grandchildren, Garrett, Emily, and Ava McNurlan, Kaylynn Williams, with a new baby Williams to arrive in December; one sister, Doreen Lund of Naperville, IL; her special brother-in-law, Gordon Greenwood of LA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Fay Wright, and her husband, Warren G. Greenwood.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Federated Church in Sandwich, IL, with Rev. Dan Dewitt officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich. Private burial will be held at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk, IL.
