Treber Duncan Thatcher, Jr., 69, of Sandwich, IL, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving children and devoted wife. He was born on January 18, 1953, to Treber Sr. and Lillie Thatcher. He married the love of his life, Karen Spears, on August 2, 1975. They were happily married for 47 years.
Treber had a strong faith. He accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior at an early age. As a young adult, he made a public profession of faith at a Billy Graham Crusade in Chicago. He was an active member of Plano Bible Church/VBC where he faithfully served for 35 years. He loved listening to and singing along with gospel music.
He began cooking in restaurants when he was 16 years old. At the age of 25, his dream of owning his own restaurant became a reality. He thoroughly enjoyed serving quality homemade food and building relationships with his customers at Treber’s Restaurant for 22 years.
He served on the board of directors at Union Bank from 1992 - 2001. In 2000, Sheriff Randall offered him a position as the first Food Service Manager at the Kendall County Jail where he was employed until his retirement in 2016.
Treber was a very devoted family man. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his family and he loved his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking care of and driving his Cadillac. He was very social and enjoyed visiting with people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Treber Sr. and Lillie Thatcher. He is survived by his wife, Karen Thatcher; children: Treber Jason (Lisa) Thatcher, Todd (Stephanie) Thatcher, Bethany Thatcher, and Krista (Ryan) Harbeck; grandchildren: Taylor and Drew Thatcher, Hogan and Haley Thatcher, Maebyn, Thorsten, and Penley Harbeck; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, November 18, and the funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 19, both at Village Bible Church in Plano with Pastor Dwight Lehman officiating. There will be a private graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley.
