Tom Smith

Tom Smith, age 74, of Plano, Illinois, passed away on June 1, 2026. Born on April 7, 1952, Tom lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and a quiet, steady devotion to the people he cared about. Tom spent many years as a welder, a craft he took great pride in. Even after retiring, he couldn’t quite stay away from the work he loved and returned part time, always happiest with a project in front of him and a purpose in his hands. Those who knew him will remember his straightforward nature, his sense of humor, and his fondness for a cold PBR at the end of a long day. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Above all, Tom was a family man: Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa roles he cherished most. He is survived by his wife, Zoellen, and his daughters Mary Rich (Rich), Jennifer Slaughter (Matt), and Brandy Olson (Brian) and many Nieces and Nephews. He leaves behind his grandchildren Michael (Nana), Heather (Gannon), Tyler, and Alexis (Fern), as well as his great grandchildren Kara, Kanan, Kyrk, Zienna, Marelli, and Favian, each of whom brought him immense joy. 

Tom’s legacy lives on in the family he built, the work he crafted, and the countless moments of laughter, love, and grit he shared with those around him. According to Tom's wishes there will be no services. Arrangements were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home.
