Thomas Gene Olson, 80, of Sandwich, IL passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, FL. He was born August 2, 1936 in Aurora, IL, the son of Russell and Lucille Canham Olson. He married Faith Brady on June 14, 1958 in Sandwich, IL and he later married Carrol Dannewitz on August 12, 2004 in Sandwich. Gene was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, a member of the Sandwich Moose Lodge, and he was a 40-year member of the Sandwich Lions Club. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene was a Trustee for Sandwich Township. He was a loyal Sandwich Fair worker for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Carrol of Sandwich, IL; three sons, Matthew Joanna Olson, David Olson, and Daniel Jeannette Olson all of Somonauk, IL; one step son, Doug Elly Dannewitz of Geneva, IL; seven grandchildren, Anna and Laura Olson, children of Matthew and Joanna, Zachary and Brady Olson, children of Dan and Jeannette, and Penny, Cesi, and Colton Dannewitz, children of Doug and Elly; one sister, Karen William Fuchs of Punta Gorde, FL; his twin brother, Jerry Dova Olson of Sandwich, IL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife on November 18, 2001.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich, IL with Pastor Wayne Derber officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich.
