Thomas L. Keenan, 96, of Sandwich passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1916 in Millbrook, IL the son of John and Elva (Griswold) Keenan. He married Rosella Olson Schreiner on June 20, 1959 in Plano. Thomas was a member of the VFW Post 1486 of Sandwich, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening, but enjoyed his family most of all. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Houghtaylen of Sandwich and Kathleen (Lynn) Ferguson of Somonauk; one step-daughter, Georgia Schreiner DeSpain of Sandwich; four grandchildren, Heath of Somonauk, Thomas (Allison) of Elmhurst, Lindsay and Jill Ferguson of Somonauk; two step-grandchildren, Diana Schramer of Sun Prairie, WI and Steven (Stacy) DeSpain of Sandwich; four step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosella on October 31, 2009, his sisters, Genevieve North, Loretta Vermaland, Alice Figgins and Alvina Parish; his brothers, Roswald Keenan, Russell Keenan, John S. Keenan and Robert Keenan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich with Pastor Stan Motley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the funeral home in Sandwich. Memorials may be directed to Unity Hospice.
