Theresia Zanker, 94, of Sandwich, IL passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. She was born April 16, 1927 in Etyek, Hungary the daughter Andreas and Barbara (Till) Szabo. She married Anton Zanker on October 10, 1946 in Talheim, Germany. She was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and worked at Western Electric in Montgomery, Illinois for 20 years. Anton and Theresia emigrated from Neckarwestheim, Germany with six children, to Plano, IL in 1956 and then moved to Sandwich in 1975.
She is survived her children; Anton (Terry) of Waterman, IL, Karl-Heinz of San Diego, CA, Anneliese (Robert) Hart of Cortland, IL, Eberhard of Sheridan, IL, and Veronika (Robert) Gilkerson of Plano, IL; Grandchildren, Erica Heinrichs of Newton, IA, Anton J. Zanker of Waterman, IL, Elizareth (Chad) Hussung of Oregon, IL, Aaron (Kim) Turner of Glenarm, IL, Casey Gilkerson of Oswego, IL, Christopher (Jenny) Gilkerson of Plano, IL, Robert Hart of Cortland, IL, Jennifer Hart of Colorado Springs, CO, Andria Schultz of Plainfield, IL; Great grandchildren; AJ Turner, Jacob Turner, Matthew Heinrichs, James Heinrichs, Charles Heinrichs, Max Zanker, Oliver Gilkerson, and Jesse Gilkerson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Anton Zanker, her sisters, Barbara Rack of Germany, Khatarina Pinter of Hungary, and Maria Sommer of Germany, her sons, Siegfried and Andrew, her daughter Hildegard and husband Earl Turner, son-in-law Robert Hart, and granddaughter Heidi Zanker.
Private Graveside Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Bristol, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, IL. In Lieu of flowers Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association. For more information or to sign the online guest book go to
