Sharon Kay Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2026, at her home in Leland, Illinois.
She was born October 21, 1939, in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Henry Kenneth and Mavis (Martin) VonOhlen. She married Gordon Johnson on March 22, 1958, in Leland, IL, at the United Methodism Church. She graduated from Leland High School in 1957 and was hired that year by CTS Knights in Sandwich, IL, where she worked for the next 45 years in Accounts Payroll. Sharon and her husband Gordie made their home in Sandwich. They made many friends throughout the years with their involvement in Harness Racing. Sharon moved back to Leland in 2014, where she lived happily until her passing. Sharon was an active member of the Leland United Methodist Church for many years and served on several committees.
Sharon enjoyed her shopping trips with her sister to the Peru Mall, the many adventures through the years with her friend group from high school, attending the athletic events of her niece and nephew and eventually her great nieces as well, watching women's basketball on TV and visits from her family, especially her great nieces. She had fond memories of her childhood and the time spent at her dad's drug store in Leland.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Skinner and her husband, Richard of Leland; one niece, Robyn Guelde, and her husband, Scott of Leland; one nephew, Ryan Skinner, and his wife, Karolina of Leland; three great nieces, Brynn and Brooklynn Guelde and Anna Skinner, all of Leland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her beloved dogs, Holly, Muffin, and Tasch.
According to Sharon's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later time. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Cremation Rites were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home.
