Sandra "Sandy" Joan Black

September 10, 1941 — August 12, 2024

Sandra (Sandy) Joan Enright Black went home to Jesus on Monday, August 12, 2024, peacefully and surrounded by her family at her home of 44 years in Sandwich, IL after a courageous eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Sandy was born on September 10, 1941, in Almont, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Effie (Ramen) Enright of Romeo, MI and siblings Wilma See, Donna Lefever and Lyle Enright.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, James (Jim) Black of Sandwich, her children Stephanie (David) Jennings of Victoria, TX, Rachel (Rev. Brian) Ferguson of Cincinnati, OH, Cortney (Graig) Kinzler of Oswego, IL, Stephen (Mary) Black of Sandwich, IL and Kymberly Black of Shelby Township, MI, along with 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sandy is also survived by brother James (Gail) Enright, sister-in-law Gloria Enright Reid and brother-in-law Gerald D. Black, Sr., along with dozens of loving nieces and nephews.

Sandy grew up on a dairy farm in Armada, MI, the youngest of five children. She met Jim working at Wickes Lumber Company in Romeo, MI. They married on November 5, 1966, and went on to live in eight states following Jim’s career with the last stop being an old Victorian home in Sandwich. Along the way, Sandy held many jobs through their life together, but her most rewarding were her positions as the office manager for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic in Scranton, PA, and the 30 years she spent as the executive director of the historic Opera House in Sandwich before her retirement in 2015. Sandy’s love of music and the arts began when she was a little girl and learned to play the accordion. While she could play a variety of instruments, it was the French horn that stole her heart. Over a period of more than 50 years, Sandy played in high school and college bands, marching band, church ensembles and was a proud charter member of the Indian Valley Community Band for over 30 years.

Her beautiful life will be remembered through her immense humor, her joy and love of hugs, her devotion to her husband and family, her “Momisms”, and her passion for her faith which was beyond measure. She was a member of Harvest New Beginnings Church in Oswego, IL where she served on the Missionary Board and as a long-time greeter. From an early age her hope and faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of who she was and will be her greatest legacy to her family and all of those whom she touched. BH.BC.SF.
