Russell Edward Wahlgren

Russell Edward Wahlgren, 90, of Sandwich passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. He was born October 26, 1925 in Sandwich, the son of George Henry and Merlie Ivis Bloom Wahlgren. He married Allene Edna Stahl on August 28, 1953 in Somonauk. Russell was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, serving during WWII. He was an avid Cubs fan and loved wood working. Russell worked at CTS Knights until their closing and Armour Dial Corp until his retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Roy Christine Wahlgren of Sandwich, IL and James Wahlgren of Honolulu, HI; three grandchildren, Ross, Ashley and Courtney; two step grandchildren, Jimmy and Jason; three step great grandchildren, Morgan, Andrew and Cole; one sister, Shirley Nelson of Sandwich, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Allene. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich with Pastor David J. Kaul officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the funeral home in Sandwich. Memorial may be directed to Open Door Rehabilitation Center or the charity of your choice.
