Royal Duane Corbin, 72, of Plano, passed away Monday, April 6, 2020. He was born August 28, 1947 in Aurora, IL to LeRoy and Irene (Needham) Corbin. He married Fran Kiley on August 5, 1972 in Sandwich, IL at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He graduated from Plano High School in 1965 and attended Aurora University after graduation. He spent his life as a farmer in the Plano and Sandwich communities and retired in 2008, when he turned over the farm operations to his son, Royce. Royal stayed very active in the planning activities of the farm from the comfort of his Polaris Ranger. He and his brother, Kenneth, started Corbin Farms Sweet Corn, when they were younger, and it has been sold on their family farm at the corner of Needham Rd and Rt. 34 since 1960. He was the true definition of a man with a green thumb. When the field work was done in the spring, you could find him puttering around the family garden throughout the summer. Royal was a member of the United Methodist Church of Plano for over 50 years. He was also a proud member of the Sandwich Moose and a lifetime member of the NRA. In his earlier years, Royal loved hunting and his trips up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to go snowmobiling on his Polaris snowmobiles. Royal was affectionately known by his grandkids as “Popcorn” or “P-corn” for short. He loved labrador retrievers and had many of these loyal dogs over the years.
Royal was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Irene (Needham) Corbin and his brother-in-law Mark Lewis. Royal leaves behind his loving wife, Fran “Ding Ding” Corbin, his daughter, Amy (Greg) Brown, his son, Royce (Jordyn) Corbin, his brother, Kenneth (Sue) Corbin, his sisters-in-law, Jane (Stan) Orr and Pat Lewis, his grandchildren, Kiley Brown, Corbin Brown, Devin Brown, and Casen Corbin, and his niece and nephews, Kent (Katie) Corbin, Kensey (Brett) Davis, Paul Corbin (Ainsley Richards), Ryan Orr (Kristin Propst) and Colin Orr (Jordan Rosati). He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will always live on in their hearts and memories.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no formal church or funeral services at this time. A memorial may be held at a future date. Memorials can be made in his name to the United Methodist Church of Plano (Window Fund). For more information or to sign the online guest book, go to
