Rolande A. Gottlieb Kuntz, 81, of Newark passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 30, 1934 in Thann Alsace, France, the daughter of Joseph E. Beltzung and Germaine Brandt. She married Hermann Gottlieb on September 1, 1956 in Chicago, IL and later married James Kuntz on June 26, 1988 in Knoxville, IL. Rolande was a member at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Somonauk and Rebbecca Circle at the church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose #1016, Sandwich Ladies Auxillary of Valley West Hospital. Rolande enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, gardening, shopping, birds, politics with special attention paid to the Republican Party but her greatest love of all was her family.
After enduring Nazi occupation during World War II, she came to the US at 17. She worked hard to obtain her citizenship and learn the English language. On May 8, 1962, Rolande proudly became a citizen of the United States. She was very patriotic and valued her citizenship.
She is survived by her husband, James of Newark, IL; one daughter, Karen Ron Masson of Rocklin, CA; three sons, David Julie Gottlieb of Sandwich, IL, Eric Jennifer Kuntz of Sandwich, IL and Aaron Sara Kuntz of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, David Beth Gottlieb, Dana Matt Thielk, Nick Gottlieb, Bradley Masson, Danielle Masson, Michelle Masson, Annmarie Kuntz, Josh Kuntz and Kira Kuntz; six great grandchildren, Erik and Evan Gottlieb, Cayden, Addyson, Kane Thielk and Delilah Kuntz; one sister, Lina Abraham of Barrington, IL and one brother, Robert Beltzung of Schaumburg, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph, Germaine and Bernadette and one sister, Arlette Allen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church in Somonauk with Pastor William C. Weidenbach, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk.
