Roger L. Walz, 85, of Somonauk, IL passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 15, 1928 in Ridgeville Township, WI the son of Irl Raymond and Vera M. (Dunlevy) Walz. He married Mary Ann Yackley on May 14, 1955 in Lisle, IL. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Somonauk, the Sandwich Moose Lodge, the Leland Lions Club, and he received the Honor Lions of Illinois Fellowship Award. Roger served in the Army Air Corps. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife Mary, four daughters, Linda Fritz of Bloomington, Patricia Walz of Lansing, MI, Terri Landsteiner of Waterman and Laura (Kip) Anderson of Shabbona; four sons, Michael (Karen) Walz of Sandwich, James P. Walz of Las Vegas, NV, Joe (Brenda) Walz of Leland and Kevin (Nance) Walz of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Karen (Bill) Murphy of Plymouth, MI; three brothers, Stanley Walz and Philip (Adele) Walz both of Portage, WI and George A. (Evelyn) Walz of Yorkville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Raymond Walz, one brother Earl David Walz and one daughter-in-law Linda Walz.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, with Father Andrew C. Hougan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with a Wake Service at 7:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
