Robert H. "Swede" Whittaker passed away in McAllen at the age of 97 on September 18, 2010. The youngest of four children, Robert was born in June 1913 to Robert Whittaker and Pearl Sellers Whittaker in rural Illinois near Earlville. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1931 and drove freight to the East out of Chicago and Studebaker cars to the West until he married in 1938. He took up farming until he retired in the early 1970's. Since 1953, he was wintered in Texas (the Rio Grande Valley) and moved to McAllen permanently in the middle 1990's. Robert loved to fish and spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Bagley Whittaker, his parents, a brother, Ralph Whittaker, and sisters Ruth Whittaker and Mary Whittaker Monson.
He is survived by his daughter Phyllis Whittaker, a niece, Betty Whittaker Hoxsey, a nephew, Robert Monson, and Buster is 25 pound cat.
