Robert “Bob” VonSeggern, 81, of Earlville, IL passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on the family farm on January 10, 1936 in Scribner, NE, the son of Ralph and Elsie Schafer VonSeggern. He married Maurene S. Kempson on February 21, 1962 in DeKalb, IL. Bob was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, where he was very active. He taught confirmation classes and was on the church council. He also coached little league. Bob was a proud member of the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked for the Chicago NorthWestern Railroad as an agent telegrapher and later was a foreman at Manley Brothers-Technisand in Troy Grove. Bob enjoyed fishing, his gardens of roses and vegetables, and watching Nebraska football and the Cubs. He liked visiting casinos, and his competitive spirit came through when playing board games and cards.
He is survived by his wife, Maurene of Earlville, IL; one daughter, Barb Hake of Sheridan, IL; one son, Steve Joy VonSeggern of Rochelle, IL; four grandchildren, Hailee Hake of Earlville, IL, Amanda Rob Nanzer of Earlville, IL, Jessie Dana Sexton of Rochelle, IL, and Katie Sexton of Freeport, IL; three great grandchildren, Jesse, Jerry, and Rylee; one brother, Ronald Jan VonSeggern of Keaney, NE; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Brianna, and one sister, Ruth Parrish.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville with Rev. Tammy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church Pre-School, Earlville Ambulance Service, or to the charity of your choice.
