Robert “Bob” W. “Swede” Swanson, 87, formerly of Sandwich, Illinois passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham, IL due to complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born June 6, 1930 in Sandwich, IL the son of Carl and Edith (Gillam) Swanson, Jr. He married Barbara Kegel on January 24, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in Plano, IL. Robert served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as a steel worker in Chicago, IL, a Master Carpenter for Erickson Construction, he ran R.W. Swanson Construction and retired from Plano Molding as a Facilities Manager. Robert was an active member of the Plano American Legion Post 395 in Plano, IL until his diagnosis. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Pamela (David) Gray of Plano, Texas and LuCinda (George) Krebs of Williamsville, IL; his loving grandsons, Douglas Gray of Plano, Tx, Robert Krebs of Williamsville, IL, and Nicholas (Bradly) Dye of Cheyenne, WY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara Swanson, two brothers, Carl and David Swanson; two sisters, Frances Bridgewater, and Alice Schnabel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2018 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL with Rev. David Kaul officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich, IL with Military Honors by the Plano American Legion Post 395. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., on Friday, March 30, 2018 in the funeral home until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, IL.
