Robert William Penman, 66, of Somonauk, IL passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his home in Somonauk after a 16 month battle with ALS. He was born June 24, 1946 in Chicago, IL the son of Robert and Constance (Wagner) Penman Sr. Bob married Rita Baumann on May 23, 1970 in Bristol. He was a member of the RC Dusters Flying Club. Bob enjoyed fishing, collecting construction toys, flying remote control airplanes, time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Bob enjoyed his free time and weekends at various summer getaways. He enjoyed his dogs especially Harry. He graduated from Oswego High School, then attended Joliet Junior College. Bob served in the US Army from October 1965 to September 1968. When he returned, he worked for Aurora Blacktop and Caterpillar Tractor Company in Montgomery. He retired from Caterpillar in 2005 after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rita of Somonauk; his sons, Geoffery (Christy) Penman and their children, Payton and Paige of Plainfield, Jason (Jennifer) Penman and their children, Jared, Justen, Julia and Jodie of Paw Paw, Gregory (Mairead) Penman and their children, Aidan and Maeve of Bentonville AR, Darrell (Gina) Williams and their children, Chase and Mason of Bolingbrook; two sisters, Hope Glass of Aurora, and Virginia (Dave) Leifheit of Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, Thomas Penman and Carrie Sue Vittetow, Maternal grandparents, Elmer and Helen Wagner, one brother-in-law, Thomas Glass and one sister-in-law, Louise Nestor.
Bob will be remembered by his many friends and family for his sense of humor, his hearty laugh, his kindness and smile. His honorary pallbearer will be Lee Ernest.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with Father Andrew Hougan officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the funeral home in Somonauk. Memorials may be directed to Fox Valley Older Adults, DeKalb County Hospice and Les Turner ALS Foundation.
