Robert A. “Bob” Hughes, 73, of Earlville passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was born September 4, 1949 in Dodgeville, WI, the son of Robert E. and Albertha M. (Weier) Hughes. Bob graduated from Mineral Point in May 1967. He married Diann D. Sturdevant on September 9, 1967 and they moved to Illinois the same day. Bob started at Caterpillar in Aurora in September of 1967 and retired in January 1999. After retirement he worked driving a truck for a few local farmers, drove a terex truck for Whittaker Excavating, he also owned and operated his own truck. Bob was on the bargaining committee for UAW and a member of Earlville Jaycees. He became a friend of Bill W (AA) and touched 100’s of lives. Bob was known for his love of motorcycles, Green Bay Packers, Rock n Roll music, his healthy political debates on FaceBook that landed him in FB jail. His greatest love was his family and his AA family.
He is survived by his wife, Diann of Earlville, IL; his children, Michelle (Jim Olson) Finnell of Somonauk, IL, Heather Hughes of Oswego, IL, and Jason (Jennifer) Hughes of Meredosia, IL; grandchildren, Alicia (Joseph) Veltri, Owen (Faith) Olson, Bailey (LeAnn) Olson, Evan Hughes, Samantha (Clay) Timmons, Kendall Hughes, Brooklyn Kunkel, Morgan Kunkel, Cannon Hughes, Judah Hughes, and Silas Hughes; great grandchildren, Joey and Cooper Veltri, Aubree and Averee Olson, Maverick Timmons; his sisters, Jane (Tom) Bratton. Donna Hughes, David (Laurie) Hughes; several nieces and nephews; numerous AA family members. The family would like to give a special thank you to Bob and Diann’s neighbors, Matt and Jade, Mark and Jodeen, Gary and Nancy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son at birth; his sister, Karen Misener; nephews, Eric Misener, and Craig Hughes and one brother-in-law Charles Terrill.
