Robert W. Greyer, 78, of Earlville, IL passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 at his home in Florida. He was born February 25, 1935 in West Brooklyn, Illinois the son of John and Thelma (Warren) Greyer. He married Nancy Lois Kasprak in Aurora, IL. Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army and while he did not enjoy that experience, several lifelong friendships were created during his service. Robert was a proud graduate of West Aurora High School and went on to earn a BA in Business from the Colorado University in Boulder. His love for the Rocky Mountains was deep and he returned to Colorado year after year. He was a general contractor and built many homes around Aurora and the surrounding communities. Robert was an animal lover throughout his entire lifetime. He especially loved the cockapoo breed. It was this breed, including a series of dogs all named Joey, that brought joy and shared decades of love from Robert. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. He was an avid card player and enjoyed passing this tradition on to his grandchildren. He split his time between Illinois, Colorado and going to Florida or the winter.
He is survived by one daughter, Jodell (Kevin) Akers of Geneseo, IL; one son, Robert (Jeannine) Greyer of Golden, CO; seven grandchildren, Corey Akers, Collin Akers, Carlye Akers, Caitlin Akers, Madalynn Greyer, Reid Greyer and Macy Greyer; one brother, Jack (Marianne) Greyer of Austin, TX; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Nancy in 1985.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 2p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville, IL with Pastor Linda Thomas officiating the funeral service immediately following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Private burial will be for family only at Precinct Cemetery in Rural Earlville, IL.
