Robert L. “Chip” Hughes, 90, of Earlville passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 27, 1925 in Earlville, the son of Lester Paul and Mary Garland Hughes. Chip was a proud member of the US Navy, serving during WWII, the Atlantic Geographic Survey and the Dominican Republic. He retired from the Navy after 23 years of service as Chief Petty Officer. Chip was a member of the American Legion in Earlville and the Fleet Reserve Association. He loved to tinker with all sorts of things. Chip was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed restoring Model A cars. He is survived by one sister, Carol Wiley of Earlville, IL; several nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles Hughes, two sisters, Nettie Mae Hughes and Julia Elaine Hughes. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville with Military Honors following the service.
