Robert Joseph “Bobby Joe” McGava, Sr., born on April 12, 1949, to Edward Francis and Helen Mae (Meighan) McGava, the youngest of six children. Bob passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at his home in Waterman, IL. He passed peacefully with his sons, Joe and Tom, his sister, Peg, and daughter-in-law, Terri by his side.
Bob is survived by his loving sons, Robert Joseph (Terri) McGava, Jr. and Thomas Matthew (Sonja) McGava of Millington, IL; his sisters, Mary Martz of Marysville, WA and Margaret “Peg” Anderson of Plano, IL; his brother, John Arthur (Sue) McGava of LaSalle, IL; five grandchildren, Jessie, Joey, Peyton, Cora, and Jameson; five great grandchildren, Jake, Amelia, Macson, Merric, and Mase. Numerous nieces and nephews, who will continue to honor his memory and carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and compassion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Helen, sister, Jacqueline Kokes, brother, Donald McGava, and nieces, Juanita McGava, Karen Kokes, Tracee McGava, and Angela Martz, his nephew, Alex Ziembiec.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Bob was a cherished member of his community, known for his kindness, his white handlebar mustache, and for wearing suspenders.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care and support given by the staff at Kishwaukee Hospital and Cancer Center, the staff at DMJ Home Health, the staff at Sanctuary Hospice, and his personal care giver, Terri Ann McGava.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the American Legion in Sheridan, IL to honor Bob’s life and the incredible mark he left on his community.
