Richard L. Mathre, 81, of Newark, Illinois passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at his residence in rural Newark, IL. He was born April 28, 1936 in rural Helmar, IL the son of Oscar and Bertha Enger Mathre. He married Alice A. Beardsley on August 10, 1957 in Sheridan, IL. He was a Newark Fireman for over 20 years. Richard enjoyed wintering in the Florida Keys with his wife Alice and fishing in the Florida Keys with his many friends. He loved his trade of carpentering and woodworking. Richard was an avid race fan with NASCAR and had a part ownership in a stock car and he also enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Newark, one son, Brian Teresa Mathre of Newark, IL; four grandchildren, Ashlee David Bullis, Scott Ashley Wilburn Mathre, Aaron Mathre and Benjamin Mathre, three great grandchildren, Evan, Nolan and Marian; seven godchildren; two sisters, Alice Dow of Batavia, IL and Beulah Akre of Newark, IL; one brother, Lowell Uvanna Mathre of Newark, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Carolyn Alsager, Jane Johnson and one sister in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Millington United Methodist Church with Pastor Kirk C. Scott officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Millington United Methodist Church or The Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, IL.
