Rebecca Ann (Whitlock) Olsen, 59, of Bryan, Texas passed away on May 30, 2015, while vacationing with her husband in Sweden. A visitation will take place on June 27, 2015 at the Earlville United Methodist Church, 313 Stilson Street in Earlville, and beginning at 11:00 A.M. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 P.M. Rebecca was born in Mendota Hospital, Mendota, Illinois to Russell and Virginia Whitlock. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1974 and from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She taught English at Tuscola High School, Tuscola, Illinois. After graduation she married Mikael P.J. Olsen on July 20, 1979 in Earlville. They moved to Bryan, Texas in 1981, and she was later employed by the Bryan Independent School District as a teacher of English and French at Bryan High School. She also taught French at College Station Junior High School. In 1990 she graduated from Texas A&M University with a Master Degree in Education. She taught English part time at Blinn College, Bryan Campus.
Rebecca enjoyed traveling in France, England, and Spain as well as Denmark and Sweden and was a Tour Guide for several groups of junior high and high school students. As a local coordinator for ASSE she helped find placement for several high school students from Sweden,
Iceland, and Hungary with local families in the Bryan College Station, Texas area as exchange students. She kept regular contact with many of these students, and often visited them. She was enjoying one of these visits with a former student and her family when she passed away. She
loved dogs and opened her home to foster and provide temporary shelter for the local animal shelter. She was very active in Peace Lutheran Church, College Station, Texas where she helped organize overnight stays at the Church for the local chapter of Family Promise. She was a member of the church choir, scheduled Sacristy, and participated as Communion Assistant and Lector on a regular basis.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Virginia Whitlock, and mother-in-law Ruth Olsen.
She is survived by her husband Mikael Olsen, father-in law Ole Olsen, sons Christian and Peter Olsen, granddaughter, Nikki Olsen, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Don Henegar of Dixon, IL; , nieces, Ashley and Brittany Henegar, nephew, Alex Henegar and wife Jessica. She is also
survived by several cousins and other family and friends.
