R. Eldon "Hitch" Hitchins

R. Eldon "Hitch" Hitchins, 73, of Earlville, IL passed away, Thursday, January 27, 2011 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL. He was born July 4, 1937 in Ottawa, IL the son of Ralph and Ida Roux Hitchins. He was a graduate of Serena High School in the class of 1955. Eldon served in the National Guard. He married Carol Heyworth on November 27, 1960 in Ottawa, IL. He was a member of the Earlville United Methodist Church. Eldon was Earlville city treasurer for over twenty years. He farmed in Waltham Township for over twenty-five years until his illness prevented him from doing so. He was a former member of the Earlville Lions Club. In his early years he enjoyed playing all sports.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Earlville; one daughter, Holli Hitchins of Chicago, IL; one brother, Wayne (Myrtle) Hitchins of Peru, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, LaVerne, and two sons in infancy.
