Phyllis G. Terry

Phyllis G. Terry, 88, of Sandwich passed away peacefully Monday, August 3, 2015 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Care Center. She was born May 20, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Carl C. and Florence Beauman Schmidt. Phyllis and her husband, Jim, owned the Sandwich Free Press, Mendota Reporter, LaSalle Times and other small town papers from the 50’s to the 70’s. She had a deep love and appreciation for antiques that led her to open one of the first antique stores in Sandwich in the early 70’s. Phyllis donated to the Sandwich Hospital and Sandwich Museum in their early stages of development. She moved to Santa Fe, NM in the 80’s and finally returned to Sandwich in 2011.


She is survived by two daughters, Elisha Gabriell of Colorado Springs, CO and Caryl Terry of Leesburg, FL; three grandsons, Mikel, Jon and Terrin; two great grandchildren: Logan and Sophia; one brother, Robert Judy Schmidt of Polo, IL.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, James William Terry, one daughter, Katherine Ann Reins Terry.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Pratts Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Cremation Rites were accorded to Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich. For more information or to sign the online guest book, go to www.EighnerFuneralHomes.com
