Paul Anthony Diebold, 63, of Sheridan passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. He was born August 4, 1951 in Fort Atkinson, WI the son of Paul and Cora (Hathaway) Diebold. He married Linda Gayan in 2003 in Somonauk. Paul was a member of the Yorkville Legion and the Reapers Motorcycle Club. He proudly served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972 in the United States Army and is a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Paul was a dedicated fire fighter in River Forest for 27 years and Sheridan for 4 years. He had a great passion for baseball, hockey and anything western. He loved “The Duke,” music and riding his Harley. Paul absolutely loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Paul’s greatest joy was his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Sheridan, IL; one daughter, Amber (Steve) Delo of Somonauk, IL; two sons, Jason (Jessica) Diebold of Somonauk, IL and David (Justin) Janz of Kenosha, WI; his faithful dog, Cooper; four grandchildren, Olivia, Morgan, Avery and Sophie; two sisters, Kathy DalCason of Naperville, IL and Marce Diebold of WI; three brothers, Kelly (Cathy) Diebold of Baraboo, WI, John (Emily) Diebold of Berwyn, IL and Chris Diebold of N. Aurora, IL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Mary Gayan; two sisters-in-law, Jennie (Tommy) Sklena and Cindy (John) Janiszewski; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, John DalCason.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Father Kevin Butler officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the funeral home in Somonauk. Military Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Memorials may be directed to Fire Burn Camp.
