Pamela K. O’Connell, 74, of Yorkville passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born December 2, 1942 in Aurora, IL to Mary and Charles Schmitt. Pamela was a graduate of Oswego High school, class of 1961. After graduation, she moved to Aurora and met the love of her life, Terry O’Connell. They married on September 21, 1968 and spent 49 wonderful years raising their family and traveling. Pam retired from School District 129 after 21 years and spent much of her retirement volunteering for St. Mark’s Church in Aurora as a deacon, usher, and member of the care committee and funeral committee.
She is survived by her husband, Terry; her three children, Jerald Marianne O’Connell, Michelle Steve Halbesma, and Jim Nicole O’Connell; her grandchildren, Ryan, Kennedy, Brady O’Connell, Jake and Hannah Halbesma; step-grandchildren, Jessica Brumbaugh, Grace Sexton, Emily, Josh, and Tim Halbesma; her aunt, Helen Rangel and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Schmitt, her mother, Mary Fleming-Hahn, and her brother, Jerry Fleming.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses from Advocate Dreyer and Presence Mercy Medical Center, who cared for Pam and to Guiding Light Hospice, who comforted and cared for her and her family in her final days.
Services will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Aurora on Saturday, July 15, 2017. The family will receive visitors from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
