Orland W. McAllister, 86, of Sandwich, IL passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sandwich, IL. He was born January 10, 1925 in Waterman, IL, the son of J. Russell and Gladys (Keene) McAllister. He attended University of Illinois until joining the United States Army, serving during WWII from 1943 until 1946. He married Lucile Burgin on June 12, 1948 in Somonauk, IL. He farmed on the family farm until 1970 when he and his family moved to Sandwich. Orland was involved in the construction and later following retirement worked at Edgebrook Country Club. He was employed by Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich in the maintenance department until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Somonauk United Presbyterian Church, where he served as Trustee and Elder for many years. He was a Charter member and Past President of Waterman Lions Club and later transferred to Sandwich Lions Club. He was an avid gardner, enjoying his roses, golfing and fishing. He was an excellent artist, receiving awards at the Sandwich Fair and he painted the mascots in the gymnasiums at the Somonauk and Sandwich High Schools. His greatest love of all was his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Lucile of Sandwich; five children, Reid (Nancy) McAllister of Waterman, Deene (Rob) Wheatley of Colorado Springs, CO, Cherri (Dana) Scheidecker of Greeley, CO, Pam (Jeff) Reifsteck of Somonauk and Scott (Carolyn) McAllister of Newark; 15 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two brothers, Merrill McAllister of Sandwich and Bill (Peg) McAllister of Carlinville, IL; one sister, Bonnie (Charles) Courtney of Madison, N.J. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Somonauk United Presbyterian Church 14030 Chicago Road, Somonauk, IL with Pastor Jane Bunnell and Pastor Jim Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Somonauk United Presbyterian Church.
