Norma Jean Simmons, 95, formerly of Yorkville and Sandwich, passed in the company of her loved ones, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Sugar Grove, Illinois. She was born July 7, 1931, in Harvey, to her loving parents Norman and Rose Lohrbach. On February 10, 1951, Norma happily married Roger Simmons in Aurora, Illinois. They would go on to spend the next 48 years together until his unexpected passing in 1999. Norma was an avid reader up until her passing. She often spent her days at Prairie Pointe reading magazines and books. Norma volunteered with her church for many years with anything from serving luncheons to helping with Sunday school. She loved socializing with friends and neighbors and took great pride in keeping her home. Norma’s family wishes to thank the many caregivers that took care of her in her final years. Specifically, Bianca, Kathleen, Robin, Crystal, Jen, and Peggy.

She is survived by her sisters Buena Bass and Norma Rial. Her children, Debra Hanback, Gary Simmons (Kathy), and Lisa Gudmunson (Dan). Her grandchildren Ryan Hanback (Mike), Andy Hanback, Lindsay Bohl (Kyle), Mark Simmons, Mike Gudmunson (Kaitlyn), and Jessica Aska (Alex). Lastly, Norma is survived by her great grandchildren, Brielle, Braylen, Finnley, Grady, Oliver, Owen, and Everly, whom she loved dearly. Norma is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger, her daughter Lynette, her 2 sons in law David Hanback and Robert Jones and her brother Terry (Marlene).

A Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Turner Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. A Funeral Service will be held at 1p.m directly after the visitation. Following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Any Memorials may be made to either the Fox Valley Community Services or The Somonauk Library.
