Mildred Elaine “Millie” Gast, 90, of Earlville, IL passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa, IL. She was born on December 22, 1926 in Sandwich, IL the daughter of Erik and Gertrude Michaelson Rosengren. She married Ralph C. Gast on May 19, 1949 in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Serena High School in the class of 1944. Mildred went to Ryburn-King Hospital School of Nursing in Ottawa, IL and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corps. Mildred worked at Ryburn-King Hospital and Sandwich Hospital for several years. She enjoyed doing private duty nursing for friends and her neighbors.
She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville where she was active on the Altar Guild, the sewing circle and the funeral luncheons group. She was a past president of the Earlville Library Board, was a Election Judge for many years. Mildred enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Gus Werner of Hallettsville, TX and Mary Todd Wright of Doyline, LA; one son, David Sandra Gast of Earlville, IL; 8 grandchildren, Shannon Carl Cook, Erik Carla Gast, Sarah Matt Cook, Sharon Joe Stone, David R. Janese, Michael Gast, Jordan Chris Luker and Jimmy Wright; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph in 2010, one son Reinhold Carl Gast and one brother Stanley Rosengren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 415 S. East Street Earlville, IL with Rev. Tammy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville, IL. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the church until the time of services at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Earlville Historical Society, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of one\s choice.
