Mildred A. Hampton, 94, of Sandwich, IL passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin, IL, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Grimes, Iowa on May 29, 1917 the daughter of John and Anna (Peitzman) Seibert. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, IL. She was the youngest child of six, raised on a farm. She enjoyed playing cards, Dominos, Church functions, Red Hat Ladies, being a hospital volunteer, and especially her family. Mildred resided at Heritage Health in Elgin, IL for the last three months where she made many friends and truly enjoyed her time there. Mildred treasured her time spent with her family. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and friend.
She married Leonard C. Hampton in Des Moines, IA on March 11, 1935, and the family was blessed with seven children.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sharon (Kenneth) Schneider of Clear Lake, IA, Roger Hampton of Happy Valley, OR, Roxanne (James) Walston of South Elgin, IL, and Dwain (Beverly) Hampton of Hinckley, IL; seven grandchildren, Renee (Tom) Holson, Scott (Beth) Farrand, Amy (Eric) Moon, Darby (Dan) Arakelian, Darcie (Jim) Verhaeghe, Kali Grigsby, and Jennifer Hampton, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna; her daughters, Donna, Irene and Arlene; three brothers, Clarence, Glenn and Earl Seibert; two sisters, Hulda Kohls and Irene Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, with Pastor Dennis Heaney officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the church, preceding the funeral service. Graveside services will at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk or Heritage Health in Elgin, IL.
