Michael A. Graham

Michael A. Graham, known affectionately to many simply as Mike, passed away on March 16, 2026. Born on July 19, 1968, in Naperville, Illinois, Mike lived a life deeply intertwined with the fast-paced and thrilling world of open-wheel racing. His journey from a dedicated mechanic to an over-the-road truck driver was marked by a passionate commitment to motorsports that defined both his career and personal pursuits.

A proud graduate of Wyoming Technical Institute, Mike began his professional life at Coffman Brothers in Aurora, Illinois, where he applied his technical expertise as a mechanic. But it was the racing world that truly captured Mike’s heart. His passion was not merely for speed but for the intricate craftsmanship behind every race car. He devoted himself to the maintenance and construction of midgets and sprint cars, embodying the spirit of racing from the garage to the racetrack.

Mike’s enthusiasm extended beyond work; he literally lived and breathed racing. His hands brought to life a street-legal champ dirt car, and he painstakingly restored a treasured family-owned 1970's open-wheel midget car, preserving a piece of racing history. Always willing to lend a hand, Mike was a familiar presence in pit crews, where he volunteered his skills and knowledge to support racers and teams, embodying the communal bond that racing fosters.

Friends and family remember Mike as a man whose heart raced for the sport—he ate, drank, and dreamt racing. His dedication was more than a hobby; it was the essence of who he was. Close friend and racing mentor Cary Goldman recalls Mike’s unwavering generosity and expert care, qualities that made him a beloved figure within the racing community.

Mike’s legacy is carried forward by his surviving family: his brother Robb Graham, sister Jody Price, brother-in-law Larry Price, and their extended family including aunts, an uncle, cousins, and nieces. They, along with his many friends, hold dear the memory of a man whose life was marked by tireless dedication and boundless enthusiasm for the racing world. Mike was preceded in death by his father Clyde (Bud) Graham, mother Diane Graham, and brother Scotty Graham.

In remembering Michael A. Graham, we honor a life lived at full throttle—with skill, passion, and an unyielding love for the sport that defined him. His contributions to the racing community and the warmth he shared with those around him will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
