Merrill Kenneth “Ken” Haas, 76, of Earlville passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Heritage Manor in Streator, IL. He was born May 17, 1941 in Ottawa, IL, the son of Merrill Davis and Ruth Ethel Griffin Haas. He married Alma Ruth Brown on September 15, 1972 in Durango, CO. Ken proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. After his military service, Ken went into civil service in CA for 4 years. He was a volunteer fire fighter in CO and sang with a barbershop quartette. Ken drove a semi for over 25 years. In his free time, Ken enjoyed riding his bike, watch TV, camping, fishing, but he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Buddy.
He is survived by his wife, Alma of Earlville, IL; two daughters, Angie Hart and Ruth Carnahan both of Earlville, IL; one son, Kenny Haas of Mendota, IL; eight grandchildren, John, Kaity, Bethany, Sandra, Zach, Elizabeth, Kevin, and Benjamin; one great granddaughter, Areya; three sisters, Rita Lindholm of KS, Lucy Haas of MS, and Sandra Jim Crumpton of MS; two brothers, Roger “Wild” Deb Haas of MS and Preacher Haas of MS; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Merrill and Dereck, many aunts and uncles.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville, IL with Pastor Larry Sheaves officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the funeral home in Earlville.
