Melvin L. Peterson, 71, of Earlville, IL passed away, Friday, January 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer. He was born June 7, 1943 in Sandwich, IL the son of John and Adeline (Heiston ) Peterson. He married Linda Myers on March 15, 1980 in Earlville, IL. Melvin worked for Ceco Construction as a foreman for 42 years. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of the Earlville American Legion Post 549. After retiring he worked at the Bourne Country Club. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, golfing, fishing, watching the Chicago Bears, and having a cold beverage with his friends. He loved cooking for his family, making apple cider and spending time with his dogs, Joe and Montana.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Peterson, one daughter Debra Peterson of Earlville, IL, three step-daughters, Lori (Brian) Cunefare of Hutchinson, KS, Kim (Wes) Vahl of Earlville, IL and Jill Harney of Hutchinson, KS; one grandson Jeffery Peterson; 6 step-granddaughters, 7 step-grandsons and one step-great granddaughter and one step-great grandson; his mother Adeline Peterson of Earlville, IL; one brother, Norman (Joan) Peterson of Earlville, IL; and one sister, Rita (Larry) Beck of Earlville, IL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father John Peterson, one sister, Luann Acuncius and three nephews, Jeff Beck and Jim and Doug Medlar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday February 2, 2015 at Earlville United Presbyterian Church in Earlville with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville, IL.
