Melvin D. Cronin, 77, of Earlville, IL passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 in Mendota Lutheran Home in Mendota, IL. He was born September 23, 1934 in Corydon, Iowa the son of Maxwell and Mildred (Demry) Cronin. He met Jeannette McKean in Warrington, England while he was stationed there in the U.S. Air Force and later they got married. Later they moved to Colorado and then came to Earlville, IL. Melvin served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, worked for GTE Telephone Company for 37 years, CTS Knights of Sandwich, IL part-time for 20 years and served the City of Earlville as an alderman for over 12 years. He was a member of the Earlville American Legion, he drove for the Earlville Ambulance for over 25 years. Mel enjoyed fishing, hunting, his dogs and a good cigar.
He is survived by one daughter, Sherry (Donald) Frisch of Earlville, IL; one son, Robert F. Cronin of Earlville, IL; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister, Sue Ambler (Bryan) Tracy of Mendota, IL; two brother-in-laws, Robert (Nora) McKean of Earlville, IL, and George (Maureen) McKean of Warrington, England; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jan, one daughter, Sharon Remington, one sister, Shirley Ambler, three brothers, James, R. Frank and Kenneth Cronin.
Memorial services will be held for Melvin and his wife Jan at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, IL with Reverend Tammy Anderson officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial of their urn will follow in Precinct Cemetery, rural Earlville IL.
