It is with heavy hearts and boundless love that we celebrate the life of Matthew C. Grzanich, Sr., who passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 14, 1973, in Canton, Illinois, Matt lived a life defined by extraordinary generosity, deep strength and an infectious love for people and the world around them.

Matt married the love of his life, Brooke, on June 15,1996, at the Leland United Methodist Church. Over 30 beautiful years together, they built a home grounded in warmth, love, laughter, and unbreakable devotion. Nothing mattered more to Matt than his family. He was a proud, unwavering father to Jimmi Krachtus (Steff), Katie Grzanich, and MJ Grzanich (Brynn Pennington) and a loving grandfather to Shylo and Reid Krachtus.

Matt was the cherished son of Thomas and Carolyn Grzanich and Sandra Szpyrka, and a deeply loved brother to Candice Bavido, Sandy (Christopher) Abbott, Rita (Jed) Clason, Anita (Jason) Flanders, Mike Grzanich (Arlene Dupree), and Michelle (Andy) Schultz. His large, close-knit circle extended to many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a lifelong network of steadfast friends.

After attending Leland High School, Matt began his career at Roney Oatman, making lifelong friends along the way. But he truly found his calling as an Overhead Lineman for ComEd. Matt took immense pride in his trade, and his passion for the work was legendary-family drives rarely passed without Matt eagerly pointing out the specific power lines and poles he had worked on over the years. He brought unmatched dedication, skill, and camaraderie to his crew every single day.

To know Matt was to know a man who squeezed every drop of joy out of life. His sanctuary was his farm in Lewistown, where he spent some of his happiest hours mowing, prepping for hunting season, fixing up machinery, and sharing the outdoors with those he loved. Whether hunting, fishing, spending time with his fellow Buckbusters or standing over a grill preparing an incredible meal for a crowd, Matt was happiest when serving others. He was a natural host, a legendary cook, a gifted drummer and guitarist, and a tireless storyteller who lived to make people laugh.

Above all, Matt had a heart that knew no bounds. He moved through the world with an open, giving spirit, always putting others first and offering help before anyone even had to ask. To be loved by Matt was a gift, and his guidance, humor, and gentle strength leave a permanent imprint on everyone blessed enough to know him.

In honor of Matt's love of linework, a scholarship for students going into a trade will be established at Leland School to carry on his legacy and dedication to hard work. Memorials given in his name will be applied to this. The Grzanich family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Advocate Infusion Center, Radiation Oncology of Advocate Christ Medical Center, and their compassionate OSF Hospice nurse for the incredible care, comfort, and kindness shown to Matt.

A visitation will be on Thursday, October 29, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
