Mary Ann Yackley Walz, 87, of Somonauk, IL passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1935 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Frances (Monahan) and Robert F. Yackley. Mary graduated from St. Joan of Arc Grade School in 1949 and Sacred Heart Academy & Convent in 1953, which is now Benedictine Monastery in Lisle. She married Roger Laverne Walz on May 14, 1955 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Lisle. They lived in Naperville for many years and moved to the Leland area in 1972. Mary was a devoted wife, married for 58 years until Roger passed away in 2014. Mary and Roger raised 9 children.
Mary worked at Miller’s Food in Somonauk as a cashier for 21 years and came to know many people in the community. Mary loved her family and her faith. They attended St. Theresa of Avila Church in Earlville for over 30 years where she was active in the choir. She was also active in the church helping with funeral luncheons. Roger and Mary changed to St. John the Baptist Church in Somonauk in the early 2000’s. They moved to Somonauk shortly thereafter. She was a loving mother, sister, and sister-in-law. Mary committed her time to raising her family and staying in touch with family and friends.
She is survived by seven children, Linda (Craig) Fritz of Bloomington, IL, James (Liz) Walz of Las Vegas, NV, Joseph (Brenda) Walz of Sandwich, IL, Samantha (Marnee) Rutledge-Wolf of Lansing, MI, Theresa Landsteiner of Somonauk, IL, Laura (Kip) Anderson of Shabbona, IL, Kevin (Nance) Walz of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; her sisters, Donna Yackley of Lisle, IL and Kathy (Max) Johnson of Naperville, IL; her brother, David (Barbara) Yackley of Anchorage, AK; one brother-in-law, Robert Pieczynski; one daughter-in-law, Karen Walz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; two sons, Raymond Walz and Michael Walz; one daughter-in-law, Linda Walz; one granddaughter, Shaunna Walz Lane; her three sisters, Roberta (Vin) Modaff, Nancy(Jake) Boghossian, and Frances Pieczynski.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, with Father Kevin Butler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 24, 2023 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with a Wake Service at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to The Open Door Rehabilitation Center in Sandwich, IL or the charity of the donor’s choice.
