Mary Jane Marrs, 77, of Sandwich, IL formerly of Leland passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. She was born October 26, 1938 in Waterman, IL the daughter of Edmund and Adelaide Rierson Fuchs. She married Edward Marrs on June 7, 1970 at the Congregational Church in Sandwich, IL. They spent 42 happy years together, they were blessed with one son Roy C. Marrs. Mary Jane graduated from Leland High School and Northern Illinois University. She spent over 25 years teaching in Serena and Somonauk School districts. Although arthritis became a serious problem in her life, she continued doing God’s work by being an active and devoted member of the Somonauk United Presbyterian Church. She was an elder, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Coordinator and choir member. When time and health allowed, she also helped students in her home in Sandwich. Mary Jane was also a member of the Sandwich Brown-Miller Legion Auxiliary Unit #181. She served as president and treasurer of 181. She also served on the Sandwich Community Fund Board, and a volunteer for the Heartland Blood Center and Valley West Community Hospital.
She is survived by one son Roy Pamela Marrs of O’Fallon, IL and very special granddaughters, Emily, Kaitlyn and Megan Marrs; one brother, Charles Anna Fuchs along with brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews and an abundance of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, and one brother Wesley J. Fuchs in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, December 21, 2015 at Somonauk United Presbyterian Church Somonauk, IL with Rev. Dr. Anne Hoflen officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Mound Cemetery Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., Monday in the church until the time of service at noon.
