Mary Esther Donahue passed away March 25, 2018. She was born on October 31, 1946 in Sandwich, IL to William and Patricia (Herzog) Donahue. In early life she was known as an attentive sister to her two younger siblings, Laura and Bill. An adventurous spirit led her as a recent Somonauk High School graduate to move to Hawaii, then later to Northern California where she pursued a career in banking and started a family. She migrated back to the Chicago area and resided on the North Shore for more than 30 years, recently retiring from The Private Bank.
In her family circle, Mary was always known as a caring, generous, and passionate individual, who could be found organizing family social events, creating decorative centerpieces, and perfecting favorite recipes for chocolate fudge, and Mexican wedding cookies. However, her greatest pleasure in life was as devoted grandmother to Patrick, Claire, and William.
She leaves her daughter, Megan Huntley (Ryan Brebner) of Nashville, TN; sister, Laura (Michael) Grubb of Whitewater, WI; brother, Bill (Mary Jo) Donahue of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Patrick, Claire, and William Brebner; nieces and nephews, Ben and Sarah Grubb, and Billy and Jack Donahue; Her Aunt Polly Howard; many cousins and life-long dear friends.
Internment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at The Homestead, 611, East Main St., Plano, IL.
