Marlin J. Zobel, 83, of Yorkville, IL passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home in Yorkville. He was born September 14, 1930 in Newhall, Iowa the son of Louis G. and Anna (Schwenk) Zobel. He married Beth A. Steil on August 2, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of Living Heritage Lutheran Church Plano, IL. He served the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as an educator for over 50 years, including administration, teaching and coaching at the elementary and high school level, and he was Dean of Development at Concordia University in Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife Beth of Yorkville; three daughters, Suzanne Zobel of Howell, MI, Mary Beth (David) Buchholz of Kansas City, MO, and Karen (Steven) Hight of Orange, CA; one son, James (Carol) Zobel of Steeleville, IL; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Victor Zobel and Vernon (Marlene) Zobel both of Ida Grove, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane Zobel; three brothers, Edgar, Walter and Milton; three sisters, Lydia, Ruth and Lusanne.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cross Lutheran Church Yorkville, IL with Pastor James Barbey officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Yorkville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home 3952 Turner Ave. Plano, IL. Memorials may be directed to Living Heritage Lutheran Church of Plano, IL or Concordia University in Seward, NE for the Marlin and Beth Zobel Scholarship Endowment.
