Mark Charles Hirner, 54, of Somonauk, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He was born March 13, 1959 in Aurora the son of Leonard J. and Charlene (Rodecker) Hirner. He married the love of his live Susan Peterson on July 1, 1978 in Aurora, IL. Mark was employed by Caterpillar in Montgomery for 36 years and belonged to Local UAW #145. His hobbies included cooking, playing hockey, woodworking and going to concerts, especially Rush. He was a die hard Blackhawks fan and also enjoyed the Cubs and Bears. Mark’s greatest joy in life was his family especially his grandchildren, with whom he spent many hours fishing and swimming with.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of Somonauk; Mother, Charlene Hirner, of Oswego; two daughters, Amanda (Jeff) Matthews of Sycamore, Megan (Ryan) Grandgeorge of Sycamore; one daughter-in-law, Melissa Hirner of Somonauk; four grandchildren, Cooper, Carson, Anna and Olivia; two sisters, Cathie (Rick) Morehouse of Yorkville, Jo Ann (Mike) Curry of Aurora; two brothers, Jim (Carol) Hirner of Aurora and Kim (Diana) Hirner of Plano; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, one son Joshua Hirner, one nephew Andrew Morehouse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk with Pastor Wayne Derber officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday July 7, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 235 S. Green Street Somonauk, IL. Memorial may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
