Margaret Anne Doherty Stockley, 73, of Earlville, beloved wife of Dale L. Stockley, mother, aunt and grandmother, died Thursday, Jan. 4, at the University of New Mexico Trauma Center in Albuquerque, N.M., following an automobile accident and brief hospitalization.
Margaret was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Ottawa, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1962 and raised three children, Elizabeth "Beth" Sipula (Geoff), of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michael Sipula III, of Ottawa, and Thomas Sipula (Jennifer), of Freeburg, Ill.
Margaret worked at the La Salle County Circuit Clerk’s Office as an employee and as chief clerk; for the Earlville United School District as assistant to the superintendent/secretary of the school board; and she was an active member of the Earlville Lions Club.
After retiring in 2006, Margaret enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren, traveling the world with her husband, Dale, (she especially loved Ireland and Italy), volunteering, cooking and working on the farm she shared with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Dale L. Stockley, of Earlville; her three children; her three stepchildren, Mary Beth Rice, of Earlville, James (Jay) Stockley, of Wheaton, and Robert Stockley, of Rockford; two sisters, Kate (Roger) Donahue, of Earlville, and Jane (Gary) Grenter, of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Edna (Parkins) Doherty; and her brother, James Doherty, all of Utica.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Earlville, IL, with Fr. Augustin Kassa officiating. Burial will follow at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. For more information or to sign the online guest book, go to
