Margaret Kathleen Kay Ablett Harvey

October 10, 1913 — February 15, 2013

Margaret Kathleen (Kay) Ablett Harvey, 99, died quietly in her home in Somonauk, Illinois on February 15, 2013 encircled by the love of her family members. She will be remembered for her sweet nature and positive attitude. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on Oct. 10, 1913 to Margaret (Holtom) and Harold E. Ablett. Her family was unique in the fact that Kathleen, her parents, and her brother, Jack Ablett, all had red hair. Kathleen inherited the attributes of kindness and thoughtfulness from her family and spent her whole life lending a hand to others. She attended the University of Manitoba and participated in the Home Economics Program, gymnastics, ice hockey and speed skating. Many of her talents and interests have been passed down to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation members of her family.

In 1939 Kathleen married Robert Earl Harvey in Winnipeg, and then moved to Delaware County, Pennsylvania where they resided until his death in 2001. She became a Naturalized United States Citizen in 1944. She belonged to several service organizations and was instrumental in forming Parent Teacher Associations in her children’s schools.

Kathleen is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Frank) Mahon and Judith Anderson; five grandchildren, Paul Mahon, Janice Lyons, Susan Slezak, Alicia Simpson, and Kevin Anderson; and ten great-grandchildren, Michael Lyons, Zoe, Zack and Casey Slezak, Graeme Mahon, Julianna and Emily Simpson, Joy Eddis, Colin and Avery Anderson. Survivors also include sister-in-law, Blanche Ablett; niece, Nancy Testar; nephew, David Ablett; great-niece and nephew, Jane and John Testar.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother; and a son-in-law, Robert Plank.

Services will be private. Internment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Aston, Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be sent in Kathleen’s name to Fox Valley Older Adult Services Daycare at 1406 Suydam Road in Sandwich, IL 60548. Arrangements were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL.
