Margaret M. Hardekopf, 83 of Somonauk, IL. passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Greenfield of Geneva in Geneva, IL. She was born July 30, 1941, in Sandwich, IL. the daughter of Harvey E. and Magdalene M. (Hann) Haas. She married Don F. Hardekopf on October 3, 1959, in Somonauk, IL.
Upon graduation from SHS in 1959 she was employed at the offices of Caterpillar Tractor Company till 1963. In 1964 she began day care in their Somonauk home. In 1973-1977 she was Village Clerk of Somonauk. In 1976 she became a Bus Driver for Somonauk #432 until retirement in 2005 but still substituted. For many years she was Coordinator of CCD at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and drove and or cared for many Sr. Citizen’s, friends and relatives. Margaret was active in Somonauk Jr. Woman’s Club, Somonauk Historical Society, Somonauk Woman’s Club and Meals on Wheels until January 2008. She and Don enjoyed traveling. They took their children to many places in U.S.A. and later they traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and many great trips with the bank. Margaret loved her trips to Germany and Alsace France meeting many of her relatives and visiting her ancestral towns. She was faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL.
Margaret is survived by 3 children, Lisa (Michael) Peura of Yorkville, IL., Lori (Scott) Christopher of Somonauk, IL. and Dawn (Kevin) Napolitano of Somonauk, IL.; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Reita Hunt of Boulder, CO., Shirley VeZain, Janet Barron and Linda Melson all of Somonauk, IL. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Daniel Hardekopf and 3 brothers, Paul Haas, Thomas Haas and Charles Haas.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a rosary service at 5:30 pm on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, January 20, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL with Father Matthew Lamoureux, MIC officiating . Burial will follow the services at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude or the American Cancer Society.
