Maggie B. “June” Watts Spires, 91 of Madison, WI formerly of Shabbona, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg, WI. Maggie was born January 5, 1925 in Nokomis, IL to Barton H. and Maggie L. Locke Watts. She was the eighth of thirteen children. Maggie married Quentin R. Spires on October 22, 1945. They made their home in and around Shabbona, IL area and were inseparable for over 66 years until Quentin passed away on March 22, 2012. Together they raised five children. Maggie’s favorite hobbies were making quilts and watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Maggie is preceded in death by her husband Quentin, her parents, six brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her children: Edward Gloria Spires of New Lenox, IL, LeRoy Diane Spires of Panama City Beach, FL, Patty Robert Merkel Spires-Merkel of Madison, WI, Terry Jean Spires of Earlville, IL and Tim Spires of Madison, WI; six granddaughters, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; three sisters: Beulah Matson of Creve Coeur, IL, AnnaLea Watts of Canton, IL and Malinda Landers of Decatur, IL. Turner-Eighner Funeral Home of Somonauk, IL is assisting the family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 13160 W. RT 34 Somonauk, IL with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery, Shabbona Grove Road, Waterman, IL. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Turner-Eighner Funeral Home for visitation from 10:00 -11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
