Magdalen Emma Randall, age 95, of Sandwich, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Countryside Care Centre, Aurora, IL, on Sunday, August 5, 2012. She was born on Dec 24, 1916, the second youngest of eight children of Catherine M. (Birong) & Robert E. Gedell in Chicago, IL.

Magdalen leaves three daughters to cherish her memory: Joan (Kenneth) Weistroffer of St. Charles, IL, Pauline (Ted) Mitchell of Lombard IL, & Camille (the late William) Kellogg of Aurora, IL; her grandchildren – James K. Weistroffer of Florida, Catherine (Mrs. Karl Johnson) of Altona, IL, Dr. Joseph (Tara) Weistroffer of Andover, MA, and Paul Weistroffer of Cocoa Beach, FL; Stephen (Kathy) Mitchell of Algonquin, IL, Philip (Mary) Mitchell of Chicago, IL, Ann Mitchell of Florida, Martha Cavender of Villa Park, IL, & Katie (Mrs. Matthew Slayter) of Rockford, IL; Magy (Mrs. Eric Johnson) of Chicago, IL, Randall Kellogg of Aurora, IL, & Harold Kellogg of DeKalb, IL; her great-grandchildren – Grace Johnson of Altona, Ross & Kendall Weistroffer of Colorado; Parker, Shannon & Chapin Mitchell of Algonquin, Joseph, Mary & George Mitchell of Chicago, Jessica & Daniel Mitchell of Villa Park, Robert III, Samuel & Vincent Cavender of Villa Park, Andrew, Rex & Claudia Slayter of Rockford, and Camille Johnson of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, by Paul J. Randall, her loving husband of 41 years in 1977, by her son-in-law, William L. Kellogg in 1999, by a great-grandson Luke A. Johnson in 2000, and by all of her brothers and sisters, Robert, Loretta, Edward, Leo, Rita, Veronica & William Gedell.

During her working life she was employed at Jewel Food Co. main offices in Barrington; as a TWX machine operator at Richards-Wilcox Co., Aurora; and as a secretary at Dukane Corp. in St. Charles. She was a member of The Legion of Mary and a loyal volunteer for years with St. Paul’s Church Bakery Booth at the Sandwich Fair. For many years she accompanied her husband, Paul, to art shows in the Fox Valley area, Chicago, Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Naperville & West Chicago, and to Swedish Days in Geneva, the Railroad Museum at Union, IL, and the DeKalb and DuPage County Fairs. She continued marketing Paul’s artwork after his passing. Magdalen was a funny, articulate and kind woman who lifted the hearts and spirits of all who surrounded her.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home, 606 E. Arnold Road, Sandwich. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Fr. Andrew Hougan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s the Apostle Catholic Church, 340 W. Arnold Road, Sandwich, IL, on Thursday, August 9, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery on Castle Road in Sandwich, IL.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Care Centre and Dr. J. Thakkar for their excellent care.
