Lucille M. Gardner, 90, of Plano passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. She was born January 5, 1923 in Ramsey, IL the daughter of Wesley Thomas and Jemima Jane (Ireland) Baker. She was awarded the D.A.R. award and was elected May Queen in 1940 from Plano High School. In June 1941 she was married to Howard Wade and to this union was born two lovely daughters, Gloria Jean and Pamela Lucille and later married Ralph Gardner on February 14, 1958 in Plano, IL.
She was employed by Dr. Finley in Lord’s Drug Store in Plano for two years, then worked for Dr. Margaret Torrey for five years, and then for Dr. Stefan Wojtowycc for twenty-five years. In 1980, Lucille and Ralph moved and Lucille worked at the Medical College of Georgia as an Executive Secretary to the Professor of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Robert Johnson for five years and then she retired. She was an active member of Plano United Methodist Church in Plano and Berlin United Methodist Church in Hephzibah, GA, while living in Georgia.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Lucas of Plano, IL; one step-son William Brad (Eva) Gardner of Plano, IL; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Louise (Eugene) Applequist of Montgomery, IL and Lorraine J. Johnson of Hephzibah, GA; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Baker of TX and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, one daughter, Pamela Bivens; five brothers, Arthur, Orville, Leo, Harley and James.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 31, 2013 at Plano United Methodist Church with Pastor Kent Svendsen officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Private graveside services will be at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Plano United Methodist Church.
